Access to MySpace Blocked in Apple Stores

Apple said Friday that it had banned access to MySpace from its demonstration computers, claiming casual browsing of the popular social networking site was taking up bandwidth. The site also has the dubious distinction of being the only site blocked by the company so far, say Apple representatives.

The decision is twofold: MySpace users were also taking up time on the machines, and the company wants to provide "everyone a chance to test-drive a Mac" according to a statement released Friday. According to news reports, people were even using the Photobooth application to update their MySpace pictures, and would then proceed to use the machines for 'hours,' according to an unnamed employee. MySpace had no immediate comment on the development.

Definitely a smart move by Apple. I do see teens in store on those sites with the sound up high. Get a life, let the paying customers test the product out.

Apple should have a limit of 10 minutes per computer or something.

QoS is fun and dandy but only works if it kicks the user off or truly limits the site from loading otherwise the person will wait 30 minutes for it to load, they are dropped off by their parents to kill few hours anyway so they go to these types of stores.

Good for them, every time I'm at a hotel and need to print up my boarding pass for the next morning, there are always three idiots using the hotel computers checking out MySpace. Once I went off on some a****** because he saw I was holding my itinerary from Southwest and completely ignored me and played for another half hour.

I scared the s*** out of him and the hotel manager was too afraid to come over by me. He sent some hot desk clerk to deal with me.

**** MySpace, **** YouTube, and any other site for socially retarded sheep.

I'm slightly curious as to why an apple store. Not that I am against apples (although at the time of this writing I prefer Windows), but why not use your own computer? Or, should you not have one, why not your friend's computer? And while these teenagers are rude for using products that they don't intend on buying, I think the major fault lies within apple from the get-go. There are always punks who will abuse your intarweb services. I think computers need to re-implement punk-buster, but instead of preventing hacks in counter-strike, it should detect and zap lamers.

MySpace is the biggest abhorrence of all time.

The pages look like s***, and the content is s***.

I have no idea why anyone would use crap like this when you can throw up a perfectly good web page at blogger.com or wordpress.com or many others.

MySpace is the outhouse of the Internet.

I don't see any reason for demo mcs or pcs in computer stores to have running internet access in the first place - it just encourages people to abuse them as free internet cafe.
None of the demo pcs in the computer stores over here have running internet access.

This is totally understandable. People shouldn't be surfing MySpace from a computer store in the first place.

PROBLEM: If you were waiting in line to test something out in a store, and the person in front of you was on MySpace for hours upon hours, would you say something? I would!

SOLLUTION: Buy a computer, take it home, get broadband internet, and use it!

Most of the people that venture into Apple Stores are using them as free internet cafes
anyway, rather than actually bothering to buy themselves a Mac, an iPod or anything
else on sale there. Even when walking past an Apple Store, if it's not MySpace, it's
usually Hotmail I see being accessed on the demo Macs on display in store.

Last time I visited an Apple Store, someone was trying to download MS Messenger.
Not the Mac version, but the Windows Live version! Even though new Macs, being
built with Intel CPU's can run Windows apps natively, the demo Macs on display
in the Apple Stores don't have Boot Camp or Parallels installed. At least they
don't at the two Apple Stores here in Manchester.

Thank God.

Every time I go in there the place is crawling wit emos and tweeners using the display laptops for this kind of crap. They never buy anything, they are loud, obnoxious, and crowd the place.

The only downside I see to this is that the stores will look practically empty now.

like myspace is even supposed to comment on this...
almost every other retail stores i have been in have blocked access to myspace and facebook on they're display models. its easier to access porn in some businesses and workplaces than social network sites.
