Apple Drops 'Computer' from Name

AT MACWORLD Reflecting Apple's movement away from just being a provider of computers, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the company would be removing the "Computer" from its company name and would now be known simply as Apple, Inc. The name change would be the first such move since the company was founded some 30 years ago.
During the keynote, Jobs referred back to a quote by hockey great Wayne Gretzky as its reasoning for the change of colors: "I skate to where the puck is going to be not where it has been." While thanking his family for their hard work on the new products, Jobs reportedly choked up and had to pause for a brief moment, eliciting cheers of support from the audience.
At least Apple,(the beatles and, yes, PC I.m dating myself, hasn't sold out to the try to be hip soon to be attacked with virues like there's no tomorrow because they don't support any anti-virus and hav a built-in firewall..LOL. can anyone say Titanic?

|Yeah I love 60's rocknroll, jazz, blues and classical, Most of the music can trace it's roots back to the Beatles.

|I thought there was some lawsuit over the use of the name Apple a long long time ago anyhow. Even if it was settled I can see something similar happening again (and in all actuality it would make more sense if the suit happened now than it did in 81).

|Yes, there were several lawsuits over the use of Apple name. Apple Computer or Apple Inc does not actually own the trademark to the name Apple - the Beatles' record label does, and Apple Computer can keep its name so long as it doesn't enter the music business.

|Very innovative and "5 years ahead" of everyone I'm sure.

|I love these guys at Apple. As if dropping computers from the name is somehow going to increase their 5% share of the computer market. Maybe that puck is taking them to the SEC investigators. Stock options anyone?

|Actually, as if you hadn't noticed, they are caring less and less about the "Computer" and more about the "Device".
I would have preferred they change it to Apple Devices, Inc., but just dropping "computer" works.
The do a *lot* more than just computers....or at least what most folks think of when they hear the word "computer".

|I guess the puck would be somewhere in China then?
