Apple TV 'Take 2' update delayed, MacBook Air ships

Owners of the set-top device will have to wait a little longer for the highly-anticipated upgrade that allows the renting of movies from iTunes.

Apple says it needs an extra week or two to finish the upgrade to the $229 device, which should make it a much more attractive item to consumers. At Macworld, CEO Steve Jobs had promised the software by the end of January.

Users will be able to rent movies from their Apple TV's. By the end of this month, about 1,000 titles will be available. This includes 100 in HD, which will only be available through the set-top device.

The company didn't give a reason for why it was delaying the software other than saying it "was not quite finished."

However, it wasn't all bad news from Cupertino. Apple also took the opportunity to announced that its ultra-light portable MacBook Air had begun shipping. The laptop weighs about 3 points and is .16 inch thick at its thinnest point.

The Air retails for a base price of $1,799 USD.

The fact that you came in here specifically to say you don't care, really speaks volumes.

Anyways, its not a big deal but because ANYTIME MS delays something Steve has something snarky to say otherwise this would never have made news.

Well said, I am sure there isn't a long list of companies who always delivery on the date they say so. I would rather have to wait a few extra weeks if i was buying the Apple TV/Air then to get something early that is all messed up.

What would that accomplish. I'd rather see a late finished product then one that ships on time full of bugs.

Kind of like Linux, kind of like Sony, Kind of like Apple, any piece of hardware/software will have bugs in it, its just the way things work.
