At least one Psystar Mac clone ships

With doubts circulating about the company's legitimacy, Psystar announced that it had begun shipping its Open Computer Mac clone last week. Early this morning, a video surfaced apparently chronicling the arrival of at least one model.

Gizmodo reader Patrick [whiskeyfrown] posted comments last week that he had received his 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo, Leopard-installed Open Computer. Today, the same user submitted a video showing the boot-up process of what is purported to be the very Psystar Open Computer. Addressing questions about the recent Psystar video showing an Open Computer running, he actually traces the cable from the tower to the monitor to show it's not a hidden Mac actually booting up.

The OS X system profiler recognizes it as a Mac Pro, but it has been reported that updates will not work. The present lack of other users reporting that they have received their orders as well casts some further doubt the credibility of Psystar, especially when considering the disclosure made by Patrick yesterday morning: "During the last call I got from Psystar (it was Rudy), he asked if I'd be willing to talk to a reporter from forbes.com, which I agreed to (and have done). Rudy didn't ask me to do anything other than tell the guy what I thought about the machine (he did ask me 2 or 3 times if I was happy with the machine)."

He could very well be the only known Open Computer owner thus far.
