BMW Adds New iPod Integration

BMW said Wednesday that it will begin adding a new interface co-developed by the carmaker and Apple to allow for seamless integration of the iPod with a car's audio system. With the special adapter, control of the iPod would be available through the steering wheel and in-dash player.

New BMW 3, 5, 6, and 7 series vehicles, as well as the BMW M5 sedan and M6 coupe would be compatible with the adapter. The same interface is being used to connect Sirius Satellite and HD Radio with these vehicles. Pricing has not been announced, although the unit itself will become available in July. BMW intends to continue to support the older interface, which is compatible with certain vehicles beginning with the 2002 model year.

I wasn't going to buy a BMW, but now that they intergrated the iPod... Sign me up!!! Now if only the iPod was cheaper than the BMW. heheh

Special adapter = "aux" ?
Even my 10 year old subaru has it. I didn't need to get a new car just for that feature. sheesh.

Hehe, leave Zen integration to Daewo or another asian company.
The best should choose the best. Congratulations for BMW to continue improving year to year.

I agree with you. Zen is better than iPod. Talk about your over hyped, sub hardware.

The iPod is a toy! I had 2 of them, didn't like either of them, but you can't say I gave it a chance, I am going BACK to my creative products.

And it's the most expensive and proprietary, so you are forced to use itunes.

Ok.. having said that, I think right now it probably is the best available, between ease of use and accessories available. And for the record, I do own one.

You are NOT forced to use iTunes, you have 50 program at least that can replace iTunes perfectly. And if you want to avoid using the database (itunesdb), you can also do it: download, for example, rockbox: It's free and let has a lot of improvements for the original firmware. You'll never match the amount of choices you have with an ipod. Including plug it on your BMW by default

the best available? Just like google right? Everyone (that you know of, and that you see, and you hear from) uses it, so therefore it MUST be the best.

Bring on the Ipod hate! Just because lots of yuppie spoiled idiots have them, does not mean that they are bad.

Same with BMW. Lots of low quality, poser trash drive them. Does that stop me from enjoying mine?
