Best Buy leaks the final missing info about Zune HD

By Tim Conneally | Published August 10, 2009, 7:08 PM

Zune HD is Official Until today, there were only a couple of important bits of information about Microsoft's new multi-touch Zune that were left unknown: the price and the date of availability. Now, thanks to a Best Buy Leak, even those mysteries have been exposed.

On September 8th, the 16GB Zune HD will be available at $220, while the 32GB model will cost $290 (versus $299 and $399 for the 16GB and 32GB iPod Touch.)

The Zune HD will be Microsoft's answer to the iPod Touch, offering a 3.3" (420 x 272) capacitive touchscreen, full-screen Web browser, a built-in HD radio, the ability to put out 720p video with the HDMI-equipped Zune Dock, and integration with Xbox Live.

Zune's still use the excellent Wolfson CODEC WM8350

http://www.embedded.com/...hehood/210603153?pgno=2

which incidentally was used by iPODS in the earlier generations, but due to cost reasons, Apple decided to go with cheap DAC in their later models.

I have spent a lot of time on different players including Sony, ipod , Zune etc...and anyday I will pick a Zune over iPods for Audio quality...though I don't like Sony a lot due to their cramped device designs, the audio quality is out of this world...

Software side, Zune is way far cooler than excel based iTunes....podcasting support is awesome...and the best part you can copy the music back to your pc...oh yeah...there the all you can eat buffet at 14.99...inclusive of 10 songs that you can keep...that;s like paying for a CD and getting to listen to unlimited other songs...

Trust me iPod is yesterday..

Zune continues to use Wolfson along with Tegra in Zune HD.

CNET ran audio tests on both the Zune and the iPod, they had comparable quality....please refrain from using facts that originate from your biased opinions. Unless you wish to refute CNET.

As for hardware I barely know what you're talking about, given that the the Zune HD will be using that new tegra chip

And yes, Zune software sucks, but so does iTunes. Also, your claims that the OS for the Zune (or computer) is crap is also unsubstantiated. Therefore, your comments have no relevance and credibility here whatsoever.

I think the appstore for iPod Touch and iPhone blows away anything by MS. Balmer was right when he yelled developers, developers, developers. Unfortunately Apple seems to have embraced them and MS screwed them. All that aside, iPod is now the brand, Zune doesn't even have the cache of Pepsi versus Coke. Lots of pretty trinkets to be left on store shelves over XMas.

I love my G1 so much, but it's obvious that the hardware isn't up to snuff, especially after I've stuffed it with Apps and it only has 33mb of space left. The mytouch has newer/faster hw but alas, I need a keyboard. Same reason I dislike iphone typing, fingers are too wide I guess. I doubt it will ever happen...and even if it does I will never, ever buy a phone for more than $200 so unless Tmo subsidizes heavily I wouldn't get it anyway.

As for the Zune HD, I'd be incredibly tempted if I didn't use my G1 for everything I need anyway (which is moooostly music).

The Ipod Touch/Iphone run a stripped down version of OSX - the Nano and Classic run something else entirely.

Dedicated Hardware is what makes a stable platform as we have seen in Apple. The Zune, Uverse, and MS Sync all have dedicated hardware. If you nuse hardware not dedicated to Apple it becomes quite unreliable hence the hackintosh project.

I think you are so deep in your fanboy s*** you forget the crap you spew
2) Crap Hardware - turd brown anyone? Everyone is trying to clone the iPods. Apple makes the best hardware, period - This is where you made a reference to color and go on about apple being the best in hardware...

I don't need to carry a phone, PDA, gaming device, and ipod. I just need 1 device. Microsoft has yet to come out with something comparable. So, if I was in the market for an IPod touch, I might consider the new Zune. But if you value simplification, IPhone is the way to go which eliminates the need for a Zune/Ipod touch.

Also, another big factor is that the IPod Touch already has tons of applications ready to go. Microsoft is late to the party.
