Dell Recalls 35,000 Laptop Batteries

Following reports of overheating, Dell has issued a recall of batteries used in its Latitude, Precision and Inspiron notebook computers that were shipped between October 5 and 13 of this year. The recall includes 22,000 batteries shipped in the U.S. and another 13,000 distributed overseas.

Although it has heard of no injuries, Dell says the batteries, which were manufactured in China or Japan, could "pose a risk of fire." The company has setup a Web site for customers to find out if they are affected, and is providing a replacement order form and return information. "Batteries subject to recall should not be used while awaiting a replacement battery pack from Dell, it says."

我购买的Dell笔记本电脑Inspiron 2100的电池几乎没有单独使用过,但一拔掉交流电源,马上电池就没有电了,这应该属于技术问题,能否帮助解决。电池号:

The web site is worth a visit. They've set it up to make it very easy to check whether your battery is one of the ones being recalled. One of my laptop batteries belonged to one of the affected series, but when I entered the whole SN it proved to be OK. If it's bad, they will send a replacement and what you need to return the old battery to them.

And I was just about to buy a laptop from Dell's website. I take it they've fixed the problem now... so, I'm safe to do it?

If you have any reason to doubt that you ordered it before the recall, check the web site. It's simple enough to do.
