Disney Shutting Down Phone Service

By BetaNews Staff, BetaNews

A year after it ended service for its ESPN Mobile service, Disney said Thursday that it would also be closing Disney Mobile, however it gave no specific reasoning for closing down. Like it did for ESPN, Disney will now sell its content and services through carriers. The deal would likely work the same as that for the sports network. Service would be provided to current customers through December 31.

Content and applications would no longer be available for purchase, however. It would also reimburse certain customers for handset and accessory purchases, which it said it would provide further information by October 8. Early termination fees would be waived for those wishing to leave the service early. Disney will honor number porting requests, although it asked customers to port their numbers by November 30.

Disney are having a great time at the moment upsetting their customers - they shut down the ABC-1 channel on Freeview in the UK without a single on-screen notice last Friday. http://www.ukfree.tv/ful....php?storyid=1107051306

Was Disney Mobile prepaid or a full service provider. It's harder for other networks to keep up with demand. Fortunetly, AMP Mobile went through the same thing. It's unfortunate things like this continue to occur. However there is alternatives such as BoostMobile powered by the Nextel IDEN network. Which means you get Push 2 Talk (chirp) unlimitted without the need of a contract. Where you At? www.boostmobile.com. I hope this helps during the transition of looking for other services.

I think you missed the point of Disney Mobile Jonnn..

The parents got to choose who the kids could call and how much they could talk. Each phone also had GPS tracking built in so they knew where their kids were at.

It was a great service. They should have stuck it out.

My apoligies then

Then it must be something like that firefly phone. You got 4 buttons on it and you program then with what ever numbers you want.

sorry for the misunderstanding.

They did advertise it for a time but i haven't seen a recent ad on TV in many months. It was geared to parents being able to control what they're kids do, including minutes, texting, things like that. It was supposed to be 'hip' for the younger kids but i think it was more of an embarrassment to them since the phones had a toyish look to them
