GoMobile seeks to entice mobile widget developers

By releasing its Vadowerx SDK to developers and business partners, GoLife Mobile is hoping to spark interest in the object-oriented framework for development of mobile micro-applications more commonly referred to as widgets.

Since the client is Java-based, applications developed within the platform will be usable on many different handsets, regardless of OS. The idea behind widgets is that the tiny individual applications reside in their own framework, like Konfabulator or DesktopX for Windows, the sidebar in Windows Vista, or Dashboard for the Mac.

Yahoo Mobile released its first beta of its widget SDK earlier this year, and already offers widgets from MySpace, MTV, and eBay in addition to those it produces for itself. However, third party adoption of these mobile widgets still hasn't fully caught on, and the market is still in its early phases, lacking a real "killer app."

Vadowerx will join the market of J2ME-based widget engines with the likes of WidSets, the pre-betas Mobidgets, and WidX

Interested developers can register onGoLife Mobile's development site. Otherwise, the company expects the SDK to be publicly available in the third quarter of this year.
