Hauppage takes Pinnacle off of Avid's shoulders

Hauppage Digital Inc., a developer and manufacturer of analog and digital TV tuner products for PCs, has eliminated a competitor by buying the Pinnacle PCTV product line from Avid Corp.

Avid is best known for its video editing hardware and software.

The PCTV product line consists of five TV tuner products, one of them as small as a USB drive form factor. Hauppage said the product line would continue to operate under the name PCTV Systems, separately from the existing Hauppage WinTV product line, and would continue to develop new products for the PC and the Mac from its offices in Braunschweig, Germany. WinTV development will continue in New York and in Taiwan.

Hauppage refers people to the PCTV Systems website at www.pctvsystems.com, but since at the moment it consists only of "Stay tuned for product information at this location" as well as "Welcome" in three languages, you're better off looking at the PCTV section of the Avid Web site which still advertises CES specials good through January 25th.

The companies did not say how much Hauppage paid for the product line.
