UPDATE: You can download the offical release here.
BetaNews has received word on the soon to be available Public Preview of Internet Explorer 6.0. Microsoft currently has set up a bug reporting Web site that confirms Microsoft's plan to release the preview shortly. Internet Explorer 6 will include a slew of new features, including a Personal Bar, an Image Toolbar, Auto Image Resize, Media Bar, Contacts/Instant Messaging Integration and increased Web privacy. Read on for more information.
Here is the complete notes on the upcoming beta:

This is an untested fix provided by MS design team. You should also go in and select "leave messages on server". This way if Outlook erases you could try another POP3 email program... Good Luck

IE6.Everything works fine.Although after I install the IE6, Outlook 2000 still
works. However, after I uninstall the IE6, Outlook 2000 can't be used for both
sending and receiving mail.I just get the message 'Internet mail is not
registered properly.Please re-install and try again.(Account:Yahoo!Mail,POP3
Server:'pop.mail.yahoo.com',Error number:0x80040154.)'I use both the methods
repair and reinstall Outlook 2000 but it doesn't work. The same error message
shown.I also check my private mail account and it shows the same message again.I
am serious to check the words of my mail accounts entered but in vain. The selection on Add/Remove Program for IE5.5 is replaced by IE6 so I can't repair the IE using this method. Also, Outlook express is disappeared after uninstalling IE6.
The final solution is to reinstall IE5.5 and then everything goes fine again.

"For the user of the English language there is illumination and an implicit warning in the famous simile of J. Vendryes:
The ice borrows its substance from the river, it is indeed the actual water of the river itself-and yet it is not the river. A child, seeing the ice, thinks that the river exists no more, thats its course as been arrested. But this is only an illusion. Under the layer of ice, the river continues to flow down to the plain. Should the ice break, one sees the water suddenly bubble up as it goes gushing and murmuring on its way. this is an image of the stream of language. THE WRITTEN TONGUE IS THE FILM OF ICE UPON ITS WATERS; THE STREAM WHICH STILL FLOWS UNDER THE ICE THAT IMPRISONS IT IS THE POPULAR AND NATURAL LANGUAGE; THE COLD WHICH PRODUCES THE ICE AND WOULD FAIN RESTRAIN THE FLOOD IS THE STABILIZING ACTION EXERTED BY GRAMMARIANS AND PEDAGOGUES; AND THE SUNBEAM WHICH GIVES LANGUAGE ITS LIBERTY IS THE INDOMITABLE FORCE OF LIFE, TRIUMPHING OVER RULES, AND BREAKING THE FETTERS OF TRADITION"

Obviously if you like VBScript, ActiveX, and integration with the desktop then you'll prefer IE. If you want smaller download, standards compliance, extensibility, theming or cross platform support then you'll prefer Mozilla.
Each release certainly comes with major improvements. 0.9 is shaping up to deliver the most significant performance improvements yet. Page loading is considerably faster in the most recent nightlies and mail/news performance rocks too with the new outliner widget.
Score: 0
|Every new milestone is said to deliver the most significant performance increase.
IE is better for some things, like it has lot of nice stuff like DHTML and whatnot, it runs faster (currently), and IE6 (for me in WinXP)takes usually between 10-12.5mb of RAM to run.
Not to say that Mozilla doesn't have some advantages, especially on alt-platforms.
Score: 0
|Well....VBScript, ActiveX and integration with the desktop - couldn't care less about to tell you the truth, none of those bug me either way.
Smaller downloads - once again I don't know the exact size of mozilla vs IE, but I doubt the overall size difference will be THAT great. Plus a lot of people wait for the browser to be put on their favourite computer magazine so no download is necessary.
Standards Compliance - do you mean any standards compliance or BETTER standards compliance? either way this is probably the most important detail for me as I do write a lot of servlets, and as a result I get the s***s with the differences between netscape and ie. Now I'm not sure which build of mozilla netscape 6/6.01 uses, but I can tell you that it's s***! The rendering engine mangles pages. If you would like to try it for yourself create a few nested tables and into the middle one enter in a few rows in which the cells have both an image and text in them.
Extensibility - important yes, but not enough of a reason to use mozilla over everything else.
Theming - this is the most useless feature that I can think of! If this is mozilla's selling point then that really says it all. However I am in the minority here because most people do love theming/skinning, just look at the popularity of other applications that support theming/skinning (WinAmp, Sonique (at least in the mp3 area)). But in the end all of this is useless...sure it's a nice addon but you use a browser to view web pages not because you can have pretty colored borders and buttons!
Cross-Platform Support - umm, you still need to download a new version for every platform you want to run it on (or at least re-compile it on every platform you want to run it on - something the average person is not going to do). So what relevance does this have to the majority of users out there? The majority use Windows (and the majority of that majority barely know how to use windows as it is!) and hence don't need cross-platform support.
Anyways, having said all that, I'll download v1.0 or whatever version the 'final' will be deemed and give it a fair go. Wether it starts up faster or slower than IE I honestly couldn't care less about, however if it chews a lot of RAM up then I won't be too impressed. But if it renders pages correctly and other wise works fine there is no reason not to use it. But for now all I ever hear about Mozilla is all the hype (and more hype and more hype) and no delivery.

Considering that the win32 Mozilla nightlies weigh in around 8-9MB, Moz will win hands down over IE.

Netscape 6 branched from Mozilla back in September 2000, and yes it is crap. They released it prematurely, the version they released as 6.0 should have been their first "Preview Release".

The point that many people miss is that you only have to learn to use Mozilla once. It has the same behaviors, quirks, and UI across all platforms, so once you learn to Mozilla on a Mac, you already know how to use it on a PC.
Anyways, having said all that, I'll download v1.0 or whatever version the 'final' will be deemed and give it a fair go. Startup time is one of the most complained-about issues with Mozilla and Netscape 6. It is being addressed in two different ways; 1. Option to pre-load parts of Mozilla during the boot process (like IE does), 2. Reorganize and tune file/memory access to reduce startup workload.

|Only have a few comments, so I'll make it short and sweet:
The point that many people miss is that you only have to learn to use Mozilla once.
I don't understand the significance of that point. You only have to learn it once....can't you use ANY web browser once you have learn how to use any one browser? I didn't notice any learning curve moving from Netscape to IE or trying out Opera. I can't see the significance in your point...I can't for the life of me understand why anyone with an IQ over 20 would have a problem using IE on Windows, IE on a MAC, IE on a sun box, Opera on Windows or Netscape on Windows/Linux/Sun/etc. once they 'learnt' how to use a web browser in the first place.
Startup time is one of the most complained-about issues with Mozilla
Like I mentioned (rather poorly) in my earlier post....this seems like a stupid reason to whinge about (yet if you go through the old stories on this site you'll see this is people's favourite reason to whinge about!). Unless it takes a minute to start up - what's the rush? Now I'm not saying they should be slack with the code - it should still be optimised to start up and run as quickly as possible - but if it takes 30 seconds to initially start up and then runs really quickly...who cares! What is everyone whinging about those 30 seconds? They will have to wait an extra few seconds before they can load up their favourite porn site? On the other hand, if it start up slowly and runs like s*** (i.e. Netscape), then feel free to whinge about it =)
Anyways, in the end it is just another browser. Everyone will download whatever suits them best, I just hope that in the end it doesn't get to the point where developers will have to write 2 or 3 different versions of their web sites, applications etc to cater for all the browsers out there (and let's not forget backwards compatibility - because we can't expect people to download the latest version of their favourite browser now can we!)

It really kind of sux too because Microsoft is now beginning to look like alot of what I have seen on winbeta. Personally with a windows update setup when you are trusting them to send it over and get it installing , it is really bad when They allow you to get over half way and then just cut you off . Rather Cheap I thought. I was pulling it for a win2k prof machine and a win2k server machine when this happened. So I think to myself no big deal because it stores to files with a resume. Yeah right! First time for everything I guess. It ganked i.e. damaged my setup and now even after ripping the entire mess from both machines including reg. keys I get the same BS from a fresh install. I think the fellow below who said 72hrs early said it best. If they don't want you to have it they can make it look like whatever but the simple fact is I am know fool and there is no way a damaged file error would come up where there wasn't even evidence of a prior regkey. So you go off downloading it and god only knows what is going to happen.
