Joost Scraps Inline Chat for Meebo

Joost, a free, long-form video service designed to take TV to the desktop, is launching a new version of its platform which appears to be missing a notable feature. Apparently scrapped is Joost's own inline chat client, with the company opting instead to align with Meebo, a cross-platform chat service that supports MSN, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, Google Talk, as well as ICQ and Jabber.

Meebo is natively browser-based, but since Joost typically consumes the whole screen, it will be integrated as a layer atop the application, eliminating the need to switch to the browser. While Meebo seems an odd choice, since Skype was actually co-founded by Joost's founder Niklas Zennström, Joost is separate now, still growing, and has plenty of venture capital to play with.

think H264 - they used the top compression which is very processor hungry, thats why. i had problems on 2500mhz Barton but now i got a dualcore 2ghz computer which runs excellent

I never had an issue with Joost (BETA) so you guys that are complaining it is slow (AntiochMedia), you need to remove some things from the Tray Area or scan that PC for Spyware! (Note: Use more then one Spyware scanner, some find things that others don't. Mike I suggest the combo of AD-Aware and Spyware Terminator. Both on BetaNews! SERIOUSLY!!!)

If that is not your issue, the 486DX was a good processor for its time, but it's time to UPGRADE!

DZNetworks, YOU DO THE SAME!

Also, both of you update your DirectX and Video Cards!

There is some Commercially available content on it, but most of it is original that is not available on normal TV / Cable.

For what it is, it's a good program and supply of available content.

Joost sucks. Who needs more of the same crap that we already have?

Beta or not a beta - it's still ridiculously slow, which hampers performance, which makes 'testing' it extremely tedious.

This beta period is a chance for them to turn heads and impress people. I cannot believe that a multimedia application should run this slowly

Are you nuts? Joost is extremely fast. Maybe you shouldn't test modern day apps on an ancient computer. Also I don't think its meant for dial up. The idea to integrate meebo was smart. I love meebo and use it on all my laptops so I don't have to have as much personal info sitting on them.

It never ran slow for me, I usually open it ever month or so and check out what is new. A few of the beginning versions had bugs, but they have been quick to respond...

Overall, not a bad thing for FREE!
