McAfee Introduces 2006 Product Line

McAfee on Tuesday unveiled its 2006 security software product line, which is now available for download as a subscription service. The final release comes just over two months after the company began beta testing. The suite of six products were designed to combat current and emerging threats, from viruses to phishing scams and spyware.

Among the 2006 products are: McAfee ViruScan, Personal Firewall Plus, AntiSpyware, SpamKiller, Privacy Service and McAfee QuickClean. The company is also planning to introduce a new security tool aimed at wireless networks called McAfee Wireless Home Network Security. The $49.99 software locks down home wireless networks from intruders and freeloaders.

I didn't know McAfee was still around and if so: Why? Their product line cannot compete with products like: AVAST, F-Prot, AVG, Panda and others. I haven't even thought about McAfee as an alternative for 5 years. I think they may be in serious trouble.

What sucks here is the simple fact that most of these new tools were probably created and thought up a couple of years ago, but they decided to wait for a later date to impliment them so that they could re-sell their product again at a later date.

I've been using AVG since 2000... and to date it's caught every virus that's been thrown at it. I figure if you're gonna pay $40 to $50 bucks for an antivirus... than you shouldn't have to re-new it every freakin year... 4 to 5 years maybe.

Companies such as McAfee and Norton are good at putting out New software each year and having their customers pay for it. Norton has way too many tools for the average user to use... let alone understand how to work them.

in january 05 I switched to XP64 and no mcafee...I've been using avast ever since and no prob no virus...wait another year for mcafee to show up on XP64 ? I doubt it...life goes on eh ?

major bloatware! it amazes me that people use mcafee's products i have tried alot of mcafee's products and i have found that my pc has been harmed more then it is protected. i did like the spam killer program from mcafee. untill it could not connect to the server. my pc was having problems with my fps in all my games hitting like 15fps. (i did not know it was haveing problems with connecting to the server.) then i found a process that was takeing 110mb of mem and clocking my cpu up to 98%. well yet agian, it was a mcafee product slowing my pc down. the spam killer program. i uninstalled spam killer, and my fps went from 15 to 57-63 fps. for a program that is setup for helping a system in the performace area. i found it to do alot more harm then good.

I've been using Avast ever since I switched to XP x64 and haven't looked back... nice program and free!

Your telling me there is one product that takes care of Viruses, Firewall, Spyware, Spam, system maintenance, and will protect my wireless network?

Well I'd have to say...LOL!

This is a great product for the average joe that believes in the all-in-one security products.

I keep my eye on mcAfee because they bought foundstone and I loved foundstone. But look what Symantec has done to the companies they bought!
