Meet Bing: Microsoft's new search engine in pictures

Meet Bing: Microsoft's New Search EngineMicrosoft on Thursday took the wraps off its new Google competitor, a revamped Live Search dubbed "Bing." The site focuses on answering queries without requiring the user to leave the search page. But will it be enough to enable Microsoft to start taking back some search share from Google? Bing officially launches June 3, but we've put together a slideshow to give you a taste of what's to come.

"You probably didn't wake up today expecting an entirely new search experience.

But — Bing! — here it is."
Microsofts words.

half the people out there of the current generation of twitter idiots and facebook/myspace socialist wouldn’t even know who the hell Bing Crosby was with out "bing'n" it,.... i see.... that doesn’t work.

i dont see how if you read there about page you could all of a sudden think of bing being named after person.

Bing - It just doesn't work. "I'll just Google it" or "I'll just Bing it" Nah, its sounds more like" Bin it" :)

I still think it should be named after Chandler Bing...then, when it can't find decent results (or you search for porn), it can return:

'Flaign,en - sten'.

Sorry everyone...you have to have watched "Friends" to get this one.

CHANDLER: I've met the perfect woman. OK, we're sitting on her couch, we're fooling around, and then suddenly she turns to me and says, 'Do you ever want to do it in an elevator?'

MONICA: What did you say?

CHANDLER: Ahh, I believe my exact words were, 'Flaign,en - sten'. I mean I didn't know what to say, how do you know if you wanna do it on an elevator?

PHOEBE: Oh, you just know.

I can 'totally' see the marktting geniuses coming up with 'bing' trying to invent a new nounverb. Instead of googling something to bing it... And so close to ping! Priceless marvel... 8-|

actually, i will decline to use the service and use google instead.

bing reminds of a person named bing crosby.

pity for the people who are trashing his legacy and all that he has done for america. it is an insult to veterans and older americans.

why not call the service, elvis, bush, gates or "GOD"?

maybe microsoft is trying to cash in on his legacy.

"it is an insult to veterans and older americans."

*laughing*

Wow. It's a name. Relax.

How do you know they didn't name it after Chandler Bing (Friends)? Hmmm? (actually, that would be *far* more fitting now that I consider it...)

perhaps, they should have coined it pctroll

since it is likely that the search results produced by the service will be

inaccurate, derogatory and inflammatory.

either way it will turn out to be another expensive venture and stench-ful failure.

Actually I've never heard of Chandler Bing - but I *have* heard of Bing Crosby. Does seem a bizarre choice of name though - maybe it's supposed to make people think of this Chandler Bing I never heard of, I dunno. Certainly Bing Crosby makes me think 'White Christmas', not 'search engine'. But neither of those things will be a reason for me *not* to at least try it. Then I'll use or not use it based on whether it works well for me.

DBBen: Waah! I hate the name! They insulted veterans!

PC_Tool: It's a name, relax. Perhaps it wasn't named after Crosby but someone else?

DBBen: You're a troll! You insult people and make derogatory posts!

*laughing my a** off*

Oh, the irony...
