Mozilla Firefox 3.0 to be released June 17

Late Wednesday evening, a Mozilla spokesperson confirmed to BetaNews that the day the final edition of Firefox 3.0 would be made available to the general public, will be this upcoming Tuesday, June 17.

The time the final edition goes live was not disclosed, although the organization said it will be converting its headquarters in Mountain View, California, into "Camp Firefox" where invited guests and employees will celebrate its efforts to set a Guinness World Record for the most downloaded piece of software in a 24-hour period. That celebration is set to begin in the early evening, Pacific time.

The Mozilla spokesperson also formally acknowledged today's issuance of Release Candidate 3 of the next Firefox browser. Its only change over RC2 was for Mac users, in order to address a bug experienced by users upgrading their operating systems.

well I used it for one day...it worked fine...then today it was awful it did not work, I had to restart my computer..I finally deleted it...there must be some bugs in it...I dont need an engine that does not work

I am eagerly waiting for this version. Hoping that is has lots of great features which can enable us more internet friendly. We could have everything at one place.

My only concern about this is how well it will "update" a version 2. Don't tell us people will have to start from scratch when "upgrading" to version 3, thereby losing all cookies, form data, and the rest...

Overall I enjoy FF3 a lot. My only quibble right now is that themes I enjoy don't work right, but that will hopefully be fixed when 3.0 becomes final.
Some don't care for the "awesome bar" which isn't that awesome, but is a pretty nice feature for the average surfer.

They should only count the unique downloads when considering for the guiness record, not downloads from the same ip or whatnot. But that won't happen anyway. I can see people queueing 100's of copies of Firefox into their download managers.

I always chuckle when I see render tests. I long since stopped caring how pages render. why? Because I want pages to render MY WAY. not the webmaster's way. Not the advertiser's way. And not the content creation's way. When something doesn't render or I don't like the page, I either change it to my preferences, or I abandon the site. If it doesn't work with my browser (FF3 RC3,) then I abandon the site.

Simply put: I trust Mozilla and my own eyes over any other content creator.... and it will always be that way (well, at least for my eyes. Mozilla could turn evil.)

Nope. 3.0 RC2 earns a 71, the same score that the nightlies have earned for weeks. Current nightlies of 3.1pre get a 78 though...

So use the Nightly Tester Tools, bug the creators of the addons, manually fix the files yourself, or find new addons that do the same thing... The writers of extensions putting specific compatibility lists that don't include new versions isn't the fault of Mozilla.

I tried RC2 over the weeks, very good IMO. However, I will not rush to upgrade just yet. Some of the plugins I used still don't work for 3.0 yet.

It can't wait for Mozilla FireFox 3.0 to come out on Tuesday 17 June. I like about the new Mozilla Firefox is the new security feature.

Been using since Beta 1, several problems (still in RC2). Several sites do not render properly including americanexpress.com (martialartsmart.com, mastermatt.com, etc...). Some of it seems to be tied to frame layout, some problems with fonts defined with "default" color (which FF3 renders white). Regardless, basic rendering problems need to be address.

However, I am still using it and love it.

Safari is crap because Apple refuses to support it on Windows and fix bugs that could harm our systems.

IE is a good browser, I actually don't get spyware no matter what I use imagine that.

This whole 'effort to set a world record' thing is nonsense. There is currently no record. They could get 500 downloads and submit it to Guinness and they would officially have the record. Blah blah blah.

They're probably going to define it as a software package download, and not an "update" or "patch", as well as not an "automatic" or 'pushed" download.

This would eliminate Adobe flash updates and MSFT patch Tuesdays.

5,479,452-ish downloads a day.

This is awesome. Firefox 3 is a major overhaul of an already great browser. And for what it's worth Safari 4 was just seeded to Mac developers after WWDC 08. :)
