Nero 8 update offers Blu-ray and HD DVD authoring

Multimedia suite Nero has received an update which enables authoring of both Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Popular multimedia management software Nero's newest version, Nero 8 has been certified for authoring and playback of writable Blu-ray Disc Multimedia Video (BDMV) in addition to HD DVD content authoring on DVD-R/W.

High-def content support is available with the Blu-ray/HD DVD plug-in which can be purchased for $24.99 USD via the Nero Online Shop. It supports video quality up to full 1080p, and up to 5.1 channels of audio. This plug-in is compatible with Nero 7 and 8, both Full and Essentials versions.

Unfortunately, though, full Blu-ray support for both rewritable and commercial discs is only available with Nero 8. The German company is offering a downloadable serial of Nero 8 Ultra Edition for $59.99 USD until Christmas Day. Full retail of the software is $99.99 USD.

System requirements for Nero are: 1 GHz Intel Pentium III; AMD Sempron 2200+ or equivalent, 256 MB RAM (512 MB RAM for Windows Vista), 1.5 GB hard drive space for a typical installation of all components, Graphics card: min. 32 MB video memory, min. resolution 800 x 600 pixels, hardware overlay support, and min. 16-bit color settings, DirectX 9.0c or higher, and a CD, DVD, Blu-ray, or HD DVD recordable/rewritable drive for burning and playback.
