Nintendo: Make Your Own Wii Games

Nintendo has announced WiiWare, a platform for developers small and large to create their own Wii games that can be downloaded to the company's enormously popular console. Home brew are an increasing trend; Microsoft has offered a similar tool called XNA Game Studio Express for its Xbox.

Developers can use WiiWare to develop low-cost titles that take advantage of the Wii's unique remote and nunchuk controllers. Because few people enjoy working for free, created games can be sold via the Wii Shop Channel. "Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. WiiWare-built games are expected to begin arriving early next year.

I want to make my own game for Nitendo Wii. so I wanted to know how to .I thought about doing it but I didn't know how to,so I went on to google and found this.And I thought that this is were I could make my own game.also my favroit sport is football I could make my own football game For Nitendo Wii.

i would really love to see call of duty 4 on wii i really love war games like call of duty i would be better on wii because of the controlles and the gun that the they made on the wii if they are making a call of duty 4 on wii can you please let me know email me on alex_jackson69@hotmail.com

A recent Best Buy tells the entire Sony story:
Buy a $2500 HD-TV with a HD-DVD Movie and get the following free:

- Sony Playstation 3
- Playstation 3 Game
- $500 rebate

So the final price if you "buy" all three was $2000. The tv was huge granted and would be a great purchase for $2500 if thats your thing. But it sure does tell alot about Sony's situation.

Of course one good thing about this ad is the following. The million people that purchase it will have a HD-TV to play the next system Nintendo releases which supports HD. Of course Nintendo could play a fast one and release support the next age of HD Gaming. Of course at that point I would laugh my a** off, since I am waiting till the following:
A) HD-TVS are reasonable
B) The next generation of HD comes out, which would be 2-4x better then the current HD that is out today.

So if something does happen I am already good to go, since I will be the first person in line for both at my local store.

The Wii is the 400 lb. gorilla and Sony is scared. Luckily MS had a huge jump on the competition, but the Wii will outsell them all.

People claim that the Wii is a passing fad but millions of people don't even have one yet so its not a passing fad for them. So that is a stupid statement made by some. I do not see the Wii being knocked out of first for a very long time if at all. To this day I still don't see Wiis in stock while the PS3 is. If Nintendo can ramp up production like they project then the hole for Sony to dig out of will be huge.

I'm not to worried about the 360 since some very good titles are around the bend like Halo3, BioShock, Mass Effect and others. Ramping up the Holiday season should be very interesting.

I agree Nintendo made some mistakes in the past and has learned from them.

Nintendo is absolutely brilliant.

i just read this for about the 100th time and it seemed like nintendo was just being lazy: WiiWare, make your own (damn) wii games...

not saying they are lazy, just saying that it was funny how i read it this time...i really do like that while sony is trying to prevent homebrew, nintendo is opening the doors...

What an awesome idea. Once more Nintendo is showing they really know how to make a console succeed! Personally, I'm simply amazed that people are actually buying PS3s at all - at least locally. $999 without any add-ons or games is a pretty serious proposition, IMO, unless you wanted a Blu-Ray player. Even then, Blu-Ray discs are in very limited availability around here, and still cost a fortune.

Can't see the value, yet. PS3 for $400, then we'll see decent adoption rates! For now, the Wii owns the market.

Nintendo has put another nail in Sony's coffin. Whats that about 4 now?

Price
Indi-Support
Gamecube Support
Hundreds if not thousands of games on old systems via Virtual Console.

Within another 6 months Wii will have an online system that is at least close to what the others have. Given it will be free, I hope to give it a few extra points.

Only 3 more till the coffin is fully nailed shut. You could give Microsoft a few of those nails, and Sony has nailed a couple of nails in themselfs.

The PS3 is not competing with the Wii. The PS2 IS however, and cleaning up.

The Wii is a fad, the novelty will wear off.. A year from now, everyone will wonder what the fuss was all about.

Seriousily, do you even read the articles you post?

"Sales of the Xbox 360 in Europe have hit a wall"

then it goes back and says

"For Xbox 360, European hardware sales seem to have hit a wall"

so which is it did it or did it not hit a wall?

Plus, this is in EUROPE, not internationally and its only specualtion as the report itself says "seems"

Meanwhile

"Despite these issues the report does highlight that some of the most anticipated titles for the coming Q4 are for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live is described as a "beacon of hope".

hm, yeah looks like a wall there, don't see ANY mention of "killer" playstation 3 games, oh yeah thats right, they have very few exclusives left.

What planet are you from the Wii, PS3, and 360 are on the same field competing for your dollars. It's killing your beloved PS3 so you say it doesn't count. It's not high def is weak. How about the DS is killing the PSP I'm sure you can spin that some way to.

The high PS2 sales are most likely people buying replacements to their dead system and or looking for one of the designed gimmicks that SOny does.

2 Billion is a drop in the ocean compared to Microsoft's Xbox losses.

Back in 2005 it was 4 billion, before the 360 development costs hit, and the unreliability issues. It's likely to be closer to 8-10 Billion these days.

As for the Halo3 "beacon of hope", let's not hope too much, most people were very disappointed with the Halo3 beta..

You have way to much free time trolling the internet looking for old articles. MS is making money on the 360 unlike the PS3. When MS lowers the price of the 360 the PS3 will be in more trouble. I'm sure that Sony has modififed their lines and parts cost less, but tons of money are still being lost on the PS3. Making matters worse is one of the worst attach rates for a new console.

Sony must supply with this crap.

Can we try and stay in the present, most of the things you have pulled are in the past, a hit like that barely causes a chink in Microsoft's Armor.

Whereas Sony it hurts and the losses they are enduring is not helping.

Sony has the potential to come around but they need to something impressive and at this time I don't see anything that makes me want to drop $600 on a game system that may not be around much longer.

yea i guess sony should have offered gamecube support thats a definate nail in the coffin....
its not like it can play back ps2 and ps1 games. yes the virtual console is nice and i can play my old donkey kong games on it again... but i have to pay for it again, yet if i own a ps1 game i like i can play free of charge. seems like sonys backwards compatability is the best of what is offered so not a great example of how nintendo is putting nails in their coffin
