Popular Torrent Site Suprnova Set to Return

By Ed Oswald, BetaNews

Popular torrent site The Pirate Bay says it will relaunch Suprnova.org, one of the most popular BitTorrent sites on the Internet and target of the ire of the MPAA.

The site had been hinting for about four months that it would be making some type of major announcement, and had made cryptic comments to those who had pressed for more details. The project also apparently has the blessing of the former owner of the site.

'Sloncek,' the former owner of Suprnova, will remain active in the new site through the forums that will be hosted on a separate domain. He has donated the domain to the project, however he has attached several conditions to its use: The new Suprnova needs to retain the old design and feel, although the new owners can upgrade it. Additionally, the site needs to be public and not private.

Suprnova's resurrection seems to be somewhat of a retaliatory move towards the entertainment industry that has been trying hard recently to clamp down on peer-to-peer sharing.

"We talked it over and decided it was something people would have use for, it would help the torrent community and it would also signal that if you shut one down it will get back up again," The Pirate Bay adminstrator 'Brokep' told TorrentFreak.

The MPAA could not be reached for comment as of press time.

MPAA and RIAA should be investigated for their actions. They are the money hungry folks that don't care for anyone but their wallets.

Maybe it's old fashioned, but I have trouble seriously considering the legitimacy an organization that goes by the name of "The Pirate Bay".

Actually they are observing BT in a way. It seems the orginal BitTorrent has gone commercial hooking up with vendors to allow faster download of demos, shareware and other type products and over time will allow additional services. Over time when the software and technology is more understood and not so much as feared there is potential for growth.

(okay....maybe I got a little to overexited and revolutionary....but still !)

I don't think that it will be quite the success it once was, what with Torrentspy and Mininova being as large as they are now, they better have something powerful and unique.
