Rockstar Patch Hides Hot Coffee Scenes

Rockstar has released a patch for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which removes the controversial sex scenes that were exposed by the "Hot Coffee" modification. The company even unveiled a special domain name, nomorehotcoffee.com to provide details on how gamers can make GTA "Hot Coffee proof."

The controversy over the modification began in July following the release of an add-on to Rockstar's flagship game that enabled the main character to engage in sexual acts. "Hot Coffee" was created by Patrick Wildenborg, who claimed his mod simply unlocked scenes already present in the game by disabling the "censor flag."

Rockstar initially denied any blame, alleging that "hackers" had modified scenes in the game. However, the company's claims were quickly drawn into question due to the professional quality of the scenes and their appearance in Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions of Grand Theft Auto.

The news prompted the ESRB to change the rating of the current version of the game to "AO" for adults only. Rockstar promised to provide a patch for customers and stop selling the game while it worked on a non-modifiable version.

A patch is now available from Rockstar, which prevents the removed scenes from being accessed even if attempts are made to install the "Hot Coffee" modification. "These scenes were not intended to be seen or to be part of the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas experience," the company explained.

But Rockstar's quick action may not be enough for some lawmakers. United States Senator Hillary Clinton blasted the company for "stealing the innocence of our children" and "making the difficult job of being a parent even harder." The U.S. House of Representatives called on the FTC to investigate Rockstar's actions in late July.
