SanDisk releases its first 32 GB microSD card

32GB MicroSDHC SanDiskFlash memory giant SanDisk today announced that its highest capacity microSDHC card will be available for purchase tomorrow on US and European Web retail sites. The 32 GB microSDHC will cost $199.99 and is expected to ship immediately.

Worldwide availability of the new memory card is expected next month.

The SD Association effectively draws the storage limit for SDHC at 32 GB, however. So as cards of this size spread among handset manufacturers and consumers, we will start to see the gradual move toward SDXC spec mobile devices. The spec for this next generation of SD storage was released to SDA members a little over one year ago, and offers storage capacity between 32 GB and 2 TB and bus speeds up to 104 MB per second. The SDXC roadmap plans speeds up to 300 MB per second.
