Third-Gen HD DVD Players in October

By BetaNews Staff, BetaNews

August 3, 2007, 2:29 PM

Although they have not been officially announced, Amazon may have let slip the release date for third-generation HD DVD players from Toshiba. Several sites linked to product pages -- which have since been pulled -- that indicated three new models are set to debut on October 1.

The HD-A3, HD-A30, and HD-A35 will retail for $299, $399, and $499, respectively, according to the pages. Specifics on the players were not available, although an announcement may be forthcoming at CEDIA. The event is scheduled for September 5-9 and commonly is a launch pad for new audiovisual products.

Where's Steve Austin and Benjanim Linus? Because Dave and MinuteMaid seem to be dominating this one. Did you two have a fight with Steve and Banjaimin and now you aren't talking to your multiple imaginary agreeable freinds.

They always seem so show up when an HD-DVD story is posted by BetaNews.

That is unless DaveBG is posting. When it's all "Steve" and "Benjamin" posts, DaveBG is never around.

I wonder why that is.

I can see by the time stamps, that you wake up every morning, go straight to the computer and check the most recent posts to see if there are any BD or HD-DVD stories.

You quickly post your rant with spelling errors and a general depressive angry tone. Almost all of your morning posts are between 8:30 and 9:00, even when you use multiple user names.

You tend do to that first thing in the morning more than at night so you can get your fake multiple opinions out for all to see as the day goes on.

Then, you go off to work, where there's obviously a computer with internet access. As work you post differently so you don't get caught.

Your work posts are very short and angry, and usually directed at me because you are so obsessed with Hollywood.

By the time you get home, you are pissed off because your job sucks and you take a lot more time digging up links and JPEG's to post on imageshack.

Of course you have to look at this system:

http://img409.imageshack...09/1838/image038bf9.jpg

which by your standards "people would kill for".

The next morning, the whole proccess starts over again. I also noticed you have to work Saturdays and Sundays by your little pathetic method of posting.

I bet I'm really close.

It's called a combo player. You can't lose until they introduce non backward compatible BD-Java. All set top BD players are screwed unless they have an ethernet port.

I guess when you roll out an unfinished inferior format, these things happen.

Do you realize if there was an equal amount of HD-DVD players and BD in peoples home that BD movies would only account for about four percent of all nex gen HD movies sold.

Lol yah Blo-Ray can't even muster a 2 to 1 lead in movie sales anymore with all of those PS3s out there. Although the POS3 is all that is keeping this format a float. Without it Blo-Ray would be on its' last breath by now. As you can see by the charts HD-DVD was dominating with 70-80% before the POS3. So basically whenever people had a choice and didn't have a format forced upon them, they chose HD-DVD. They are continuing to choose HD-DVD and the set-tops(where they actually are getting a choice) show it. The PS3 can not keep Blu-Ray afloat forever. Once HD-DVD gets their price down to sub $200 for the set tops they will sell like hot cakes. Mark my words: Price WILL decide this war. If Sony gets cheaper first they will win.(unlikely) The average consumer doesn't know all of this technical crap we bicker about all day, and probably don't care to. They DO care about price.

Another thing that is going to haft to happen before either format takes off is HDTVs are going to haft to get cheaper. There is a VERY large number of people out there that don't even have an HDTV yet.

People might take you more seriously if you could post without acting like a twelve year old and calling people names. Act like a troll and you'll get treated like one.

Don't waste your bandwidth on this human cum stain.

Just look at this dusty system:

All entry level sh!te. I bet that PS3 is the poor mans 20GB model. I see the entry level receiver and no center channel for his "7.1" system.

LMMFAO!

If they're failing why are sales increasing Dave? Oh btw after the price drop the HD-DVD add on sales rose 1000%.

Apprently, people are buying them in preparation for the announcement from Microsoft that GTA IV will need a HDD and a HD DVD drive to play.

Unbelivable, but true.

Is that what the voices in your head say? To bad Microsoft already said that no games are going to be released on HD-DVD.

Also nowhere in that article does it say about requiring HD-DVD.

Just like they said games will never require a HDD?

Just like the HDMI cable was coming soon for the premium?

Just like there were no relibility issues with the 360?

You really have no idea what you are talking about. If you knew anything the copy protection for the 360 is on the drive so that won't happen. The HD add-on does not have that on the drive so keep tossing your garbage. This site has so many people that think that they can see into the future. In reality they are clueless.

Here we go again, FUD Central.

How much do Microsoft/Toshiba pay you?

My Panasonic Blu-Ray player works fine with Blu-Ray Java.

Do these ones support the 51GB HD DVD discs that arn't backwards compatible with earlier players?

BD-J isnt even finished yet, you need to take lying lessons.

Hey MinuteDave,

First off you don't own a Panasonic Blu-Ray player because you are in fact the same jagoff everybody hates so quit lying or post a picture. And no player currently works with BD-Java, which is another lie.

You suck at everything.

Is this yours?

I know it is. Is that the 20GB model? Let me smash it and do you a favor.

"Do these ones support the 51GB HD DVD discs that arn't backwards compatible with earlier players?"

- LMAO. Typical desperate shill at work.
How much does Sony pay you cruds for your regular idiotic and deeply ignorant BS?

51gb is likely to be used mainly on PCs.

17gb single layers & 34gb (the new Dual Layer size) will definitely work on all HD DVD players made to date.

This is a fact if you see the read speeds etc which are in the detail of the specs from the very first HD DVD drive......as is the original 45gb TL size in fact; but it is still open to question whether the 3rd layer of the new 51gb TL version will work on the very first gen 1 drives - in other words none of us can say either way right now).

Of course the movie industry has never said 30/34gb is insufficient and there is not the slightest sign of them even thinking of moving to the bigger TL disc (in fact with the 30gb DL size performing so well a new 34gb DL size makes this even less likely).

Naturally the notion that even if a movie was put onto a 51gb TL disc that it could and would be packaged so that all the main & biggest features would be able to be read from layers 1 & 2, so as not to leave behind those gen 1 player owners, is very clearly a little too complex & hard for the pointy headed idiot Sony/PS3/BD shill/drones to conceive.

How about the Sony/PS3/BD shill/drones tell us what happens to the non-profile 1:1 BD player owners & the features they are guaranteed to miss out on, eh?

.....not that a small matter like the facts would ever get in the way of the Sony/PS3/BD shill/drones trying to spread a little lying BS tho, eh?

I am reliably informed that only the $2000 Denon is a definite for profile 1.1.

Sorry but that's what you get when you believe the lies from people like Sony...... or their shills & drones like Dave & his various aliases.

Blu-Ray players don't need an ethernet port for firmware updates. I'm sure that most Blu-Ray hardware manufacturers will gladly send you a firmware update on an optical disc upon request. Yes, it's a lot more inconvenient than using the internet, but the firmware is still upgradeable.

Hopefully the HD-A30 player will fix the bug in the HD-A20 player that causes incorrect deinterlacing of 1080i video. You'd have to be a sucker to buy the HD-A20 player over the HD-A2 player.

I have / had a first gen HD-DVD, the XA1. It's pretty much a slow dog, but at least it's backward compatible with HD-DVD DL.

It now sits in a room with all the other unused equipment.
