Third party apps for iPhone: let the deluge begin

The iPhone SDK has not even been available for a week and we're already seeing the preliminary versions of software for the smart phone. Early entrant Socialthing! has opened in private beta, showing off its Web-based "digital life manager."

Socialthing is an application that lets users post content on its service which gets aggregated to all social network sites of which the user is a member. It effectively acts as a social network of social networks. Unlike Friendfeed, which is a site that creates a feed of a user's social network updates on a single site, Socialthing actually populates the participating sites while simultaneously informing friends.

This just might be a bit more significant (assuming it is correct!) and perhaps a reason to simply buy something else rather than to sit around listening to the fanboys tell us how amazing the Zune is as they complain about their iPods.

It seems to me that this web-app has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the iPhone SDK. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Web-based iPhone sites have been around since iPhone was launched last year. This seems to be just one of them.

Now you will have every anti-Apple fanboy decrying the stupidity of the buying public and whining about how their own pet products have failed to achieve even a fraction of the marketshare Apple has gained.

The really hilarious aspect is that this is the same ludicrous 'lack of marketshare' argument they use to denigrate the Mac.

One might think that if they want to make a rule, that they might play by it as well. Right!

So which way to OZ, fanboy scarecrows? And all they can reply is "anyway but Apple"

Just wait a few minutes and they will be trying to try to sell you a Zune.

With all the clones coming out by the day, technically you could say no. but this is how things work....

Apple innovates and everyone follows. Once they get close, Apple innovates again and the process repeats.

I just do not get why no one else can innovate like Apple.

There is nothing really innovative about iPhone...
It will still be a while before useful apps come out and until then, its still just a toy.

I hope "BetaNews Staff" does understand that there have been application developed for the iPhone ever since it deputed in '07. So really there is nothing new here.
