Vizio Tops LCD TV Sales in US

Virtual unknown Vizio catapulted to the number one spot in LCD TV sales during the second quarter, data from research firm iSuppli indicates.

According the the report released on Monday, the firm sold some 606,402 LCD TV’s during the quarter, a rise of 76 percent over the previous one. The firm now holds a 14.5 percent share of the market. Samsung dropped to second place, selling 467,210 TVs, although it also saw a quarter-to-quarter increase.

Vizio jumped four spots in a single quarter, passing Samsung, Philips, Sharp, and Sony. The company is likely benefitting significantly from its relationships with Costco and Wal-Mart, where its budget-priced HDTVs fit in with the bargain-hunting consumers that frequent both retailers.

Sony slid the most in the rankings, falling from third to sixth with 263,377 units sold. Sharp, on the other hand went from fourth to third, marking the first time it has risen in the rankings since losing the top spot in the American market late last year.

The company’s success was due to better inventories of the displays used to produce its sets, iSuppli said.

Rounding out the top five were Philips in fourth and LG in fifth.

Does anyone here know what manufacturer makes the Gateway branded HD LCD monitors? I am thinking mainly of "Gateway FPD2485W 24" Widescreen High-Definition LCD Flat-Panel Display" at http://www.gateway.com/a...uct/1541000R.php?seg=hm
They have good reviews on Cnet and various other sites. I have had good experience with them in the past though my Gateway FX 530 shipment is getting delayed for a couple more weeks I just learned today. Oh well.

Oh you fanboys,

Get a grip. This is GOOD NEWS FOR ALL. Competition begets innovation, cheaper pricing and better features. Please don't shed any crocodile tears for the billionaire electronics companies here. Vizio made them wake up realize the days of 50% margins on their "high end" LCDs are gone. PRICE IS KING.

Vizio is junk, I'd rather pay more for a Samsung.

Yup ... That would do it.

Vizio? wtf?

I guess people want cheap crap rather than having to pay for quality.

SAD, very very sad.

For the Average Joe, Vizio is more than fine. I've personally seen them on display in Costco and while it's true their not as good as someone like Samsung, they are much much better than the price difference would make you think it would be. Plus, if you keep your eyes open, there are always deals on these displays that make them even cheaper.
