VoIP Faces Major Test at Live 8 London

Voice over IP communications is about to face trial by fire. Avaya Business Partner Siptel has been chosen to provide mission critical communications for attendees at London's high profile Live 8 music event. In preparation for the event, Avaya has laid 10 kilometers of cable, 250 communications extensions and a bevy of wireless access points across Hyde Park's 12 acres.

The system will handle an estimated 25,000 telephone calls and will offer advanced services such as conferencing, voice mail, Interactive Response and Automated Attendant Services. Avaya Extension to Cellular will allow bridged calls from landlines to the cellular phones of Live 8 VIPS.

Hi, as a communications person I am very interested to know how this voice over ip application performed at the Live 8 event.

We too have a voip solition in the hotconference software, which is primarily pc based but offers great potential to business, friends and families.

Live 8, wow what a great event, although I am old enough to have also enjoyed Live Aid, which personally for me involved a lot more talented artistes.

1.5 billion people saw the first Live Aid in 1985.

It's spattered all over TV.

Half the people in the world ARE poor though - probably more actually. So unless they want to be listening to a concert dedicated to them on the radio(rather than say....sleeping, or working), I would also guess billions might be "2 billion".

Never know though. China, India, etc. have large populations, and I don't know how many viewers will be watching from those places.

Indeed It seems you guys have no idea how big Asia is... And let me tell you, people here knew about the concerts going on. Sure Western countries like USA are not that high envolved if it comes down to world-knowledge, far from my bed is a general thinking. Get real and open your eyes I would say!

Yea...us American knuckle draggers wouldnt know because we are too busy in our posh homes with marble counter tops and double sided industrial refridgerators and plasma TVs.

We are too dumb to know anything about other countries. Its why we need Live8. If Bono never existed, I dont think I ever would have known people outside the USA need food.

Actually. You cant judge the intelligence of the United States general population based on a post here at BetaNews or the latest TV show on MTV. So take your own ignorance elsewhere.
