Windows Phones are coming October 6th

By Tim Conneally | Published September 1, 2009, 9:40 AM

Microsoft has at last announced the availability of Windows Phones with Windows Mobile 6.5.

Though the precise phone models were not announced today, Microsoft announced the carriers and handset manufacturers we can expect to find on October 6. Windows Mobile 6.5

In North America, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Bell Mobility and Telus will have phones from HP, HTC, LG, Samsung and Toshiba; while in Europe Orange, Deutsche Telekom AG and Vodafone will have devices from Acer, HTC, LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Toshiba.

Asia will be supported by the same manufacturers as Europe, but the mobile operators will include: NTT DoCoMo, Softbank, SK Telecom, Telestra, and Willcom inc.

Latin America so far only has support from TIM Brazil, but that carrier will have phones from HTC, LG, and Samsung.

Stephanie Ferguson, General Manager of Business Experience on Microsoft's Mobile team this morning said, "You'll see new Windows phones designed for a variety of tastes, needs and price points - with or without keyboards, with or without touch screens, as well as your choice of GPS, accelerometer and high resolution camera. There are a lot of great options and we can't wait to show them to you. Until then, keep an eye on our partners as they announce details on new Windows phones and where you can find them this fall."

If that's a screenshot then it's a waste of screenspace compared to the layout of the iPhone screen.

Which is why we don't depend on BN alone for such things. :)

I see an increased amount of posts by "fatty" ever since Bill Gates basically retired from Microsoft. Things that makes you go hmmmmm...

One thing's for sure: fatty is not a real Apple lover. He's a caricature of Apple fanboys.

It will be interesting to see how this fits in to the market. At the very least, they are doing one thing smart... They are releasing it with all the major carriers unlike Apple did with hte iPhone. I wonder if Microsoft's move will finally be the last straw that will push Apple to end their exclusive contract with AT&T?

And why should anyone listen to you and your judgment about the phone? Have you actually used one of these? Can you actually offer some type of comment besides Microsoft Sucks and Apple is Great. From my perspectice the iPhone sucks because if you drop it breaks, I drop my cell phone it doesn't...

The screenshot above is from the Start menu, not the homescreen. I hope to see some upgrades being available for devices purchased in the last 6 months. The Samsung Jack stated in the press release it would be upgradable to WM 6.5, now it's a matter of seeing AT&T release/authorize it.

i think you will have to wait for winmo 7 for a good interface

There are some very decent interfaces for WinMO right now....

I have a Winmo phone with the 6.5 Rom on it and I like the start menu, most of the cooks though are using a 4x4 Honeycomb menu but there is a cab to change it back to the 3x3 you see. With the 3x3 it makes navigating easy without having to use a stylus and then the front screen has the Zune like interface which makes navigating a lot easier then 6.1..

Hopefully they all come up with a better interface than the one pictured...

fathead: Phone manufacturers have already created new interfaces for earlier versions of WinMo, and if I am not mistaken, HTC has already shown mock-ups of their WinMo 6.5 interface.

Nice fail. You're so good at it.

LOL do a google search for xbox burns then do a search for ipod/iphone burns and compare results. But then again i am sure that is part of the Microsoft slur campaign you always make reference to.
