Xbox 360 Elite Coming to Europe Aug 24

Microsoft announced at its E3 press conference late Tuesday that the Xbox 360 Elite will be coming to Europe on August 24. The souped up game console features a 120GB hard drive and HDMI connector for high-definition televisions. Pricing was not announced, however.

Both European and Canadian customers will be able to partake in all Xbox Live offerings, the company added, including its new Disney movie downloads. Microsoft also said it had no plans to drop the price of the Xbox 360 in response to a $100 price cut for Sony's PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 Elite is still cheaper than Sony's 80GB console, but does lack some features such as a Blu-ray drive.

and the 360 woes go from bad to worse.

Not only did Microsoft have nothing new to offer at E3, aside from a green Xbox premium, they have dwindling sales, and $1.15 Billion a year support costs.

MICROSOFT NOW ADMIT THAT ALL 360's ARE FAULTY.

Remember, the story last week, according to Microsoft, that there are "no systematic issues with the 360"..

By the way, did you know IT'S YOUR FAULT your 360 has failed, it's no a overheating problem, according to Microsoft, it's a problem with YOUR electric supply...

Ahh well, if it does go wrong, expect to have your console away for a couple of months, when it does come back, it's got a couple of bodges to make it work, and a cranked up fan speed. Make sure you turn that TV up LOL!!!

Oh and I forgot about the last part bone head. I sent mine to service last week it arrived on Monday and just recieved an email that is fixed and already has been shipped. Yeah that's a couple of months. You really need to get a clue.

This ay shock you but the design flaw is being fixed unlike the PS2. What issue is going to come up with the PS3 wouldn't be to funny if the disk read error rears its ugly head on the PS3. Time will tell fanboy.

Why do you bother? The only quote that is from a Microsoft exec is the following:

"Microsoft gaming chief Robbie Bach claimed in a conference call with financial analysts that the design issues surfaced recently.

"In the past couple of months we started to see significant increases in repair requests and call requests and significant attention from people," he said"

In no way is that stating that ALL 360's are faulty. Regardless though, what does it matter? They are remedying the situation by providing a 3 year warranty. Even those buying extended warranties typically only get the first 3 years covered, because after that, buying a replacement unit would not be a big deal.

And in your second link. same crap. There is still no MS exec quoted stating that - comments came from tech support calls - we all know how reliable that is with any company.

And why do you even seem to care? Just don't buy a 360. Your comment has NOTHING to do with the posted article.

They don't put a blu-ray or hd-dvd drive because doing so will limit the console.

By having it as a seperate add-on the customer has the option to buy it if they want.

Basically, they are future proofing the device.

By not including Blu-Ray or HD DVD, they are crippling the system, as it HD drive can never be used for games, as it's not standard fitment.

Microsoft went for the short term quick $$$, got the Xmas launch, and are now suffering. Buy a 360, and you will be lucky if it's not superceeded like the original Xbox, within 12 months from now.

Sony waited and got it right. For $20 more than an Elite, you can get a PS3 with HDMI, 60GB HDD, Blu-Ray and an investment in gaming for the next 8-10 years.

Are you kidding?? You make it sound like they waited on purpose. THEY WAITED BECAUSE THEY HAD NO CHOICE. Now if you had said "Sony shot themselves in the foot by trying to force-feed Blo-Ray to everyone, despite the fact it was unproven technology and by doing so, gave their competitor Microsoft a comfortable one year head start while at the same time lying to their potential customers about the delay up until the last possible minute in an attempt to discourage ship jumping" maybe I would've believed you.

You conveniently forgot to mention that "For $20 more than the Elite" you get half the hard disk space. POS3 = 60GB, 360 Elite = 120GB. Why are you listing HDMI as if it were something people actually want? Since when do people *want* DRM infestation? Also, who wants Blo-Ray? Nobody.

No, that's not another way of looking at it unless you are a fool. There's nothing at all crippled about it due to the fact that games do not require the HD-DVD drive. It's just for movies and thus an option for people to buy if they want. As for Microsoft suffering, why do you even bother saying BS like that?

Sony waited and got it right.

Is that why sales of the PS3 is so horrible and they are struggling in last place? Yeah they sure got it right. They got it so right the head of the PS division was fired. Next 8 to 10 years, LMAO.

8-12 years? Who are you kidding?

Powerful or not, in 8-10 years, it will be the equivalent of using a 1Ghz processor and 512MB of RAM today!

And that's assuming its still working 8-10 years from now.

Same goes for 360 - I want the next version of both 360 and PS3 within the next 4-5 years max.

Its going strong for a few reasons. 1) Price of PS3. 2) Ongoing dev support (although I think this is getting to be less and less) and 3) Huge game library 4) People need to replace their 5+ year old PS2's with ones that work

There you go, making stuff up again. Xbox was released in Nov of 2001. 360 in Nov of 2005. That is FOUR years. Not 2. And for their first entry into the market, I think it was acceptable, especially with what they've added for the 360.

What do you get with PS2 right now? Games. That's it. Good games, but not cutting edge state of the art. In 5 years, whether it be 360 or PS3, we will be maxing out in the capacity. It will be time for a new console that has more power. I think even Sony has stated they have a 5 year cycle planned.

I suppose you must be typing your comments on a 5 year old computer?

souped up console? what hardware preformance difference does it have compared to the low end 360?

yea its cheaper but lacks a blu-ray drive... or an hd-dvd drive so if you get the add on its then 679$ and more expensive than the ps3 and still missing 'some features'

souped up doesn't have to mean hardware performance.

It has HDMI, larger drive and different look.

And you will NEVER see a 360 that has different hardware performance - they will all work the same and play the same games.

Makes sense considering the movie downloads are now available there. I think that's really the only way they will roll the Elite out to places - IF there is stuff to make use of the space.
