Yahoo Launches PhotoMail Beta

Yahoo on Thursday rolled out a beta version of a new service called PhotoMail, which will allow users to put up to 300 pictures in a single e-mail and provides unlimited storage space for users.

The company says that the new application will simplify the process of adding photos to messages. Since there is a higher limit to the amount of photos that can be attached to e-mail versus rivals Hotmail or AOL Mail, Yahoo says it is providing more freedom in mailing photos.

PhotoMail users will be able to perform basic edits they upload to the service. For example, a user could rotate a picture to make sure it displays it correctly for pictures taken in landscape view.

Since only thumbnails of the pictures are sent in the actual e-mail, there is little chance that an e-mail would be rejected due to size limitations of incoming e-mail. Each thumbnail is only about five kilobytes. The larger versions of the pictures would reside on Yahoo's servers.

Use of PhotoMail requires Yahoo's Web based mail service. Drag and drop functionality will allow the user to drag an image from his hard drive into a small application offered by Yahoo, which will create the e-mail.

Yahoo hopes that PhotoMail lures more users to its properties. Currently, Yahoo has the largest Web-based e-mail service, with 64 million monthly users. AOL and Hotmail are a close second and third, according to ComScore Media-Metrix.

Also announced Thursday by Yahoo was the introduction of its Web mail service in six additional countries: Poland, Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia.

Listen I accidentally clicked on this STUPID new beta page. Pardon the bad choice of words but i'm a lil upset. I wanna return to my old page (not classic) the first beta page you had updated. I like that one you're coming with new ideas still but I still need to have the opportunity to switch to my previous beta page.

Just a few minutes ago, I was trying to follow the steps of installing this PhotoMail but it gave me a message that it's gone (that it's nolonger available). Is it still there or is there something I need to do in order to have it? PLEASE HELP, AM REALLY DESPERATE!!!

My comment is going to be the same as everyone else's but I need help. I also had Yahoo photomail and it was fantastic as far as i was concerned because I was able to send high resolution pictures to my editor for newspaper publication, but all of a sudden it has disappeared and trying to download it again is not working. Can some one tell me how to get photomail back? Please help.

Why do they not allow us to stay as we were, ie with the INSERT PHOTO facility. Do they not realise that most people want to share large images ie 2meg plus that can be downloaded for printing if required, or viewed from the thumbnail. It worked well, why change it. This is a retrograde step.

I thought I had installed Photo Mail Beta in my system, and tried it four times, thinking it was working fine,but I wasn't receiving confirmation from my friends. Yahoo you have gone backwards. Yahoo photomail was great and now you have deleted it from your site and gone way back to a VERY old method of even uploading files so what is next back to caveman period.

If you're going to use photomail, please be aware that Yahoo's storage is TEMPORARY. I just got burned trying to retrieve some photos that I was sent; all I got was an error message telling me that that files were no longer available. I noticed a message in miniscule print at the bottom of the email message containing the thumbnails that the files would only be available for 90 days--WTF is up with that? When people usually send stuff to may gmail account, it's archived permanently--all I've got now is a load of useless thumbnail. When I originally got these messages, I thought that the actual images files were attached; I never realized that they were stored elsewhere, and on a time-limited basis to boot. If people are sending you photos, please don't have them use photomail--I just got burned, and I'm trying to avoid anyone else going through the same experience. Right now, I'm just _disgusted_ with photomail.

i used to paste or insert pictures directly my composed email not attached, i wonder in new yahoo beta is nowhere to find this unless to go back to original version. thanks

I expected Internet explorer 7 to be a big improvement. I've since lost my yahoo photo mail and i find the toolbar to be less user friendly. What's going on?? I expect better from Yahoo

I downloaded yahoo mail beta for one of my emails and i closed it and got a new one. I tried to get the mail beta for my new email and now i cant since its only one download per pc. Its not fair i didnt know that!!!!!!';'
