iPhone now available in Austria, Ireland

Apple is using its pre-existing partnerships to expand the reach of the phone to other markets.

T-Mobile will be the device's carrier in Austria, where the German telecommunications company also has a network and provides service. Phones will be sold for 399 euros for the 8 GB model, and 499 euros for the 16 GB.

Plans are different from its American counterparts: the 39 euro per month "Classic" plan offers 1,000 minutes with 3 GB of data and free Wi-Fi at T-Mobile hotspots. A 55 euro per month "Supreme" plan gives 4,000 minutes as well as 1,000 SMS texts.

It had been reported that following the release of the iPhone in Germany, some Austrians were making the trip across the border to the neighboring country in order to get their hands on the now iconic smartphone.

Apple's move to Austria coincides with the release Friday of the iPhone in Ireland through O2. Prices for the phones are the same there as in Austria, although plans differ.

45 euros per month gets 175 minutes, 100 texts, and 1 GB of data. For 65 euros, this is bumped up to 350 minutes and 150 texts, and for 100 euros per month 700 minutes and 250 texts.
